I so wish I had a Dreamcast back in the days. Heck, I so wish I ever had a Dreamcast.
Emulation is always an option. The R36s can handle dreamcast games for pretty cheap, though it’s recommended to replace the cheap SD card it comes with.
Wait a sec. How the hell is that so cheap??? I thought it’d be 300 at the least…
I just bought a GBC and an everdrive GB after not having one forever and now im regretting that lol…should I sell what I got and get the r36?
The R36s is pretty underpowered and can’t run Dreamcast (unless there’s another R36s that doesn’t have the RK3326). I recommend purchasing a more expensive one (handhelds of around 100$ nowadays can run PSP, 200$ usually gets GameCube and PS2 if you grab the right one) or directly a PC.
Well, the R36S can technically run Dreamcast. Some Dreamcast games. At like, 50% resolution scale and with some frameskip probably. I was able to get it to run Phantasy Star Online pretty decently. But other games were unplayable.
Exactly, OP is not going broke for getting something that is less than 100$
The one I bought came with some dreamcast games but only crazy taxi actually loaded and it ran like dogshit.
Edit : it always loaded up the dreamcast boot menu trying to tell me theres no CD
How do emulators handle games that want to use the VMU as an auxiliary display? (Did that actually ever matter?)
It did rarely matter.
I think emulators can give little windows for the screens now? But no controllers I’m aware of can actually display them (including an official DC controller with a VMU…no adapter sends data back, and the emulators don’t know how to send it anyhow)
I loved mine and i only had 2 games, crazy taxi and NFL blitz 2000.
Sadly it was ruined in a flood. I should get another one…
And you should get Seaman. Lenard Nemoy provides daily updated commentary to your journey as you talk to a fish. Comes with microphone accessory.
No, I’m not joking. That’s real. That is a game you can play on Dreamcast.
I figured out how to emulate that game a few years back. It was wild. I never did finish it tho. All the Seamen got sick and I never could figure out how to make them better so they died.
They get born with I think 8 (gotta give my memory some slack. I’m old, and it was 20+ years ago). Then 6 die, leaving you with 2. Then they fight, and mate, and 1 dies.
But the last one should stay alive, and evolve.
I might be misremembering a bit then. I did get down to the last one, that all sounds familiar, and I’m pretty sure he did evolve a bit, but I think he ate a spider or something and got sick and I wasn’t able to nurse him back to health. I was pretty bummed because I was pretty far into the game.
Thats amazing
I bought my Dreamcast solely for Sonic Adventure 2, was so worth. I played the hell out of that
The only reason I have a PS3 is because it was cheaper than a Blu-ray player at the time.
I think I liked my Dreamcast library over any other console I ever owned. Nintendo games and JRPGs of the SNES era were amazing, as well as the groundbreaking graphics and the DVD capability of the PS2, but Jet Set Radio, PSO, Shenmue, Powerstone, DOA2, Sonic 1 and 2, etc. all have a very special place in my heart.
Hey, Stuart Little 2 for the PS1 is a surprisingly good 3D platformer.
Dreamcast was the best Sega console.
I have both though.
I sold my Dreamcast because I couldn’t find a decent game for it. Years later I bought a PS2 and it became favourite console of all time.
The Dreamcast failed because it was a bad console with a bad library.
