This dream is sponsored by Amazon. Don’t like how it’s going? Dream, “Alexa, wake me up!”.

Experiments involving playing music during sleep have revealed a type of dream engineering that doubled subjects’ problem-solving abilities.

This is why ads are extra loud at the wee hours so if you leave the TV on you and others in the house hear ads in your dreams. It’s one of the subliminal messaging things that is still done unless there is laws specifically for it.

It is easy enough to not buy a smart speaker though, not the scariest proposition. Its fucked from an ethical perspective, but also I can choose to not participate in the raping of my dreams.

If this works out it’ll eventually take more than that. For example, if you’re accustomed to charging your phone on your nightstand and using it as an alarm clock, you’ll probably have to stop. Or if you ride the train or bus to work and nap along the way, you’ll do it without your earbuds in. And ANY smart device with a speaker in your bedroom will eventually be ripe for abuse, whether it’s a phone, smart mirror, TV, gaming system, etc.

This is interesting and would be easy for people to implement. Combine listening to specific playlist while studying and then listening to it on a loop while sleeping. I have to say I did not understand this part as it seems to be saying they had a concious agreement to alter unconcious behavior but maybe Im misunderstanding:

“After the researchers presented the puzzle soundtracks, they observed participants performing previously agreed-upon physical cues, such as sniffing in and out to indicate that they had heard the song and were programming their minds to search for a solution.”

Intriguing study. Most interesting that even people without any dream lucidity still benefit from this

I don’t have any tough puzzles to solve but I bet this wouldn’t hurt to try for making tough life decisions using the same method

So to attempt applying their experiment to something other than puzzle solving, I guess maybe meditate on whatever life problem you’re going through while listening to a specific song, then sleep with that song on?

Edit: fuck it I’m doing a science experiment tonight, now what should I meditate on… If I can’t figure something out I’ll just play chess while listening to a song on repeat, never hurts to improve my terrible chess skills
