At least you know there’s not much chance of mosquitoes.
Definitely a big plus here.
Nice shot!!
The photo is great!
But is it worth that kind of effort?
Why do this to yourself? Just to know you can?We do sled dog tours, this was the first time we had such a temperature during this overnight trip. When it is -20 or warmer, it isn’t so bad.
If you’re moving and it’s not windy -20 doesn’t sound that bad. -35 sounds pretty brutal. -20 would also be pretty rough if it’s windy.
I’m a yank whose been stuck between daily highs of 0 F (-17 C) and 15 F (-10 C) for the past month. It’s always amusing shoveling my driveway in the evening after the kids are asleep and I start taking off layers due to body heat + sweat despite it being properly cold. I can’t imagine trying to dress appropriately where you can’t easily retreat inside and try again if you got it wrong the first time. I imagine that sweat is the enemy when you’re out in the elements like that.
warmer
That sounds like fun!
Still cold as hell. This cold isn’t good, not gonna lie.
Outdoor Boys on youtube has a bunch of videos of extreme cold camping, same setup too w/ a hot tent
Sometimes the “why” in those videos is a multi day hunting trip or a wood cutting trip
I’m looking to get into winter camping. So far the lowest I’ve done overnight was just 4 or 5 degrees below freezing. No stove, just a hammock.
It’s exhilarating. I’ll do it again just for the fun of it.
Nothing like waking up to a half frozen water bottle (always keep your filter on your person, so it doesn’t freeze and make you sick).
Assuming you’re sleeping there, where are the shelters for the sled dogs?
Those temps are probably fine to run them in, but are too cold for sleeping outside unsheltered…
They had tons of straw and special warm blankets. Huskies are ok in these temperatures. Everyone was happy and fine. Except me going to check on dogs throughout the night. When the fire went out in the stove, it was rough to be going out and in the sleeping bag. Doing it again on Monday, but it should be nice -16.
Pretty sure they just sleep outside, maybe with a blanket or something. They’re super well adapted to cold.
My gf’s half husky (not purebred) will sit outside in -30 for an hour and a half without complaint. In fact he complains when he has to come in
Hell my lab loves the cold weather. I used to put her in a coat and she was miserable. She goes and lays down in the snow just to cool off.
Labs don’t need coats because they have a greater fat content combined with two layers of fur. Fun fact, not bathing them also makes them water resistant.

Jealous.
https://nordichuskyfarm.com/p/wilderness-overnight This season is fully booked, but maybe next year? 😉 Usually it’s not so cold. We have warm clothes, drinks, and fire inside the tent, so it is not so bad.
Oh how I wish you were near me. Partner and I do winter camping (she’s better in the cold than me, but we both enjoy it) and working with dogs has been on my bucket list for years.
