Democracy experts say there is little doubt about president’s desire to interfere in elections this November
Donald Trump set off alarm bells earlier this week with comments that his administration should “take over the voting” in some states in the run-up to the 2026 midterms, which followed an unprecedented FBI raid on an election office in Georgia.
Although election experts say it’s clear the president doesn’t have authority over elections, they warn the president’s corrosive rhetoric leaves little doubt about his intent.
For months, the Trump administration has stoked doubts about the integrity of American elections largely through lawsuits designed to create the impression states aren’t doing enough to keep ineligible voters off the rolls. That effort escalated significantly last week when the FBI raided the election office in Fulton county, Georgia and seized ballots, along with other materials, related to the 2020 election. Shortly after the raid, Trump escalated his attack even further, saying the federal government should take over elections.
What good is an alarm with nobody to respond to the emergency?
Santa? Is that you? Just a little louder jingle bells?

Don’t need an election expert. Literally anybody who paid attention in middle school civics could tell you this.
Which is why we are doomed.
“Doesn’t have authority” hasn’t really stopped him so far.
I didn’t have civics in my school. This may also be why we are doomed.
I have a vague itch about this Trump guy. He might not be a decent guy. Not sure though.
At least he tells it like it is. Kinda guy you could have a beer with.
In his current state, I think a beer would probably kill him. We could only hope, anyway.
How much fascism does the fascist have to fascist before Americans realize he’s a fascist
Didn’t you hear? The US is maybe on the first step to starting down a path towards fascism!
They say just enough to pretend like they’ve said anything.
Probably quite a bit, given how the liberal mainstream media just spent 10 years refusing to reckon with this idea.

Trump May Be a Loudmouthed Demagogue, but Is He a Fascist? Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric has his opponents likening him to Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler. Such comparisons may be misplaced.

Is Donald Trump a Fascist?
My favorite thing about all the reactionary centrism coming out of the “liberal media” and plenty of leftist scolds was how they were still referencing Godwin’s Law even after Godwin said it’s not really a law or a fallacy.
Then, in 2023, he said this. And even still we have the oblivious jackasses and Tone Police wagging their fingers at anyone comparing Pedonald to Hitler. I’ve asked some of these people bringing up Godwin’s Law if they know what Godwin has said about Donvict? Crickets.

If the alarm blazes but the arsonists are the ones that respond, the alarm is useless.
