Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Even after cutting EV incentives, Norway only sold 98 diesel cars in January
2·3 days agoThat’s the other thing I like about electric. I am able to generate electricity on my property with solar panels. Can’t really refine oil into gasoline or diesel on my property.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Even after cutting EV incentives, Norway only sold 98 diesel cars in January
4·3 days agoI think this is the first month without incentives for EVs or at least reduced amounts. So previous data would be a bit skewed.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Even after cutting EV incentives, Norway only sold 98 diesel cars in January
38·3 days agoThe “concerning” way of framing these numbers would be to say that diesel car market share nearly tripled year over year, going from 1.5% in Jan 2025 to 4.4% in 2026, as EV sales dropped to about a quarter of their previous numbers. But that’s more a reflection of diesel car unit sales being so small as to be negligible, and EV unit sales being shifted forward into December instead of January.
98 diesel, 29 hybrids, 6 petrol, 2084 EVs. For the full perspective. Well done Norwegians

Cooking @lemmy.world•What’s your go‑to “I don’t want to cook but I have to” meal?
2·4 days agoCanned beans and rice. How fancy you wanna go depends on how much you don’t wanna cook. In order for me from “I don’t want to order out” to weeknight staple
hot sauce only, proper seasoning for the beans, smoked sausage added to beans, chicken thighs, Mexican rice, make cornbread, jumbalaya

Technology@lemmy.world•The upgrade argument for desktops doesn't stand up anymoreEnglish
21·6 days agoYeah, I usually over spec when I build my main rig because I want to have it last and repurpose it later down the road. I finally retired a power supply that I bought back in the mid 2000s. I can’t power modern cards anymore unfortunately. 🫡 pc power and cooling single rail take a break. You’ve earned it.

Technology@lemmy.world•The upgrade argument for desktops doesn't stand up anymoreEnglish
19·7 days agoDisposable my ass. I just did the final upgrades to my AM4 platform to be my main rig for the next 5 years. After that it will get a storage upgrade and become a NAS and do other server stuff. This computer 7 years in has another 15 left in it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What skills did almost everybody have 50 years ago, but few people have today?
2·9 days agoYeah it really is. Most everyone trained before the last 15 years were likely trained on an asynchronous manual transmission.
In good weather? Only the first few times. In bad weather? I’m on high alert like a dog who knows the mailman is delivering a vacuum cleaner. Take it slow, make sure the brakes work, and know where the runaway ramps are. A manual transmission is usually preferable for mountains for better control or for at least the illusion.

Either way, having picked up an Ender 3 back in the day that is completely offline sounds better and better everyday.
I feel like I occupy all places on this bell curve. Main rig gets retired into a server which I usually over build to have it’s later years be fine as a server. Which then it becomes old stuff. For tinkering around on projects, old stuff is preferred until it’s usefulness is proven, then it gets an upgrade. Old potato goes behind the TV until the steam machine comes out.
